Overcoming addictions can be challenging. But it can be made easier if we first understand the true nature of an addiction. It is not just a case of ‘mind over matter’. There is a lot more to it than that.
Behind most addictions lie streams of psychic energy. These energies can detect our vulnerabilities and exploit them – creating cravings which they then feed off.
The impact of these energies is significant. They amplify other factors that give rise to addictive behaviours, such as ‘tangled’ and painful feelings related to things like love or security. We can suppress but not untangle these feelings with a primal response such as eating or drinking, which mitigates or suppresses the emotional pain.
In this conversation, we examine how this happens. We also offer some pathways to resolution.
SFT tapping to dissipate the psychic energies that lie behind addiction is a particularly powerful component of any response. But so is understanding the importance of not inadvertently taking ownership of an addiction by referring to it as ‘my addiction’, or using forms of words like ‘I am addicted to …’. Seeing ourself as a light being untouched by guilt or shame, and able to smite these psychic energies whenever they approach, can also form part of the response.
When we approach an addiction in this way, we come to see that it is not part of us, and it is not permanent. It is simply transient energy passing through.
